Computational biology: detecting proteins using mass spectrometry

Mass spectrometry is a popular experimental technique used for identifying proteins present in biological samples. In this talk, I will describe the technique, discuss various computational problems faced in interpreting the data, and present some of our work in addressing these problems. I will end by introducing my current research, in which we make electrical recordings from neurons in the brain to understand how sensory information is processed by the neural circuits before it generates perception and behavior.
About the speaker:
Nitin Gupta completed his B.Tech from IIT Kanpur and his PhD from University of California, San Diego. He is currently pursuing research in Neuroscience in NIH, Bethesda.
