Abstract:

The tremendous escalation in the design of modern complex portable devices such as PDAs, cell phones etc have only been possible due to development of advanced Design Space Exploration (DSE) techniques so far. This presentation introduces three novel approaches to rapid DSE with multi parametric optimization objective during High Level Synthesis (HLS). The proposed approaches resolves issues related to DSE such as the accuracy of evaluation, quality of result (QoR) time exhausted (exploration speed) during evaluation and automation of the exploration process. During DSE, conflicting situation of concurrently maximizing the quality of final result and minimizing the time of exploration always exists for the designer. The techniques presented are capable of drastically reducing the number of evaluations needed for selection of the optimal design point without sacrificing the quality of final solution. The DSE results for many benchmarks are presented along with a comparison to an existing approach. Results indicated significant improvement compared to the current existing approach.
