About the Speaker:

Mr. Kumar Ranganathan currently leads the Trusted Platform Research group at Intel's Systems Research Center at Bangalore. In addition, Kumar's responsibilities include establishing strong collaborative relationships with researchers in academia, sponsoring Intel-funded research in universities in the US and India, and influencing Intel's internationalization strategy for emerging markets including India.

Mr. Kumar has over 16 years of experience in the U.S. high-technology industry. He has played a leadership role in the development of several Intel technologies including Intel's distributed real-time operating systems product (iRMX for Multibus-II), Proshare - the 32-bit H.323/H.320-based PC PC-based video conferencing product for the Internet & ISDN systems, as well as other advanced platform security technologies in Intel's corporate technology laboratories. Kumar has been a staff architect at Motorola's RISC Microprocessor Division where he worked on the PowerPC RISC microprocessor architecture. He was also instrumental in spinning-out Convera, an Intel-funded startup company specializing in digital content management and distribution over the Internet, where he was the Director of Solutions Engineering and Architecture. Mr. Kumar has also assessed the business plans, intellectual property portfolios, and technology competency of a number of startup companies funded by Intel Capital, Intel's venture capital fund.

Mr. Kumar's technical interests span a number of areas including: computer architecture, operating systems, autonomic computing, mobile computing & computer security.

Mr. Kumar holds a Master's degree in Computer & Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics from NIT-K, Surathkal.
