Abstract

Bioinformatics has picked up as a distinct interdisciplinary discipline for the last eight years after the first bacterial genome was completely sequenced. Complete sequencing of human genome has raised hopes. The whole bioinformatics revolves around sequencing, structure, function, and behavior of gene and genome. There are two ways of identifying the new information either using comparative genomics or using mathematical modeling using heuristics. Both the approaches have many practical limitations and need approximation algorithms. In this talk, I will give an overview of the different research areas of Bioinformatics, open issues, and its application to medical science. The talk will be general, and would be of interest to computer scientists as well as biotechnologists.
