Homework 1: How I do an everyday task

In this homework you are required to describe in 2-3 paragraphs the thought process by which you do certain everyday tasks. Tasks may include motor tasks (where you interact bodily with other objects), or involving thought or language. Some possible tasks are suggested below.

For your chosen task, actually do it once, then think about it. Consider the efficiency and ease with which you do it. Consider the sensory inputs you use while doing it (can you do it almost as well blindfolded?) Consider the thought processes and mental representations involved in doing it.

Relevant topics in MITECS may include Motor Control, Motor Learning, Mental Representation, Psycholinguistics.

We shall also discuss how such behaviours may be incorporated in a robot (not needed in your writeup).

Your writeup will need to be in .html format. It should be loaded at home.iitk.ac.in/~yourid/367/hw1.html.

Due: July 31 midnight.

Two students will be selected randomly. These topics will be discussed in class, and the students involved will read their essays in class on Monday. We will consider our understanding of the mechanics of these two everyday tasks in some detail.
