Application Instructions

Area of Interest

An MS/PhD applicant should accurately indicate her area of interest for research (e.g., computer architecture, data science, programming languages) while filling in the online application form. This helps the process of matching prospective MS/PhD candidates to potential advisors. Furthermore, shortlisted candidates will be evaluated on the areas of her choice.

It is possible to switch to different areas of research and also switch advisors after a few months, with mutual agreement between the advisee, the old advisor(s), and the new advisor(s). However, note that this is contingent on all the involved parties agreeing and expressing willingness for this to happen.

A choice of topics during admissions will not restrict an applicant's choice of allowed courses/research areas during her MS/PhD. However, shortlisted PG candidates are strongly recommended to credit relevant courses after discussions with their initial advisors.

MTech/MS applicants interested in the Cybersecurity specialization should select Cybersecurity as their first preference. After successfully getting admitted to the regular MTech/MS programmes in CSE, the Cybersecurity team will conduct another selection process for admission to MTech/MS in the Cybersecurity specialization.

Statement of Purpose

An SOP is mandatory for PhD applicants. MS(R) applicants are also strongly encouraged to submit an SOP. Please refer to SOP Instructions before submitting your SOP on the application portal.

Selection Procedure

MS(R) / PhD

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online.

The syllabus for the online interview is similar to GATE and involves basics in Computer Science and Engineering. The candidate may also be interviewed on specific topics she is comfortable with, her prior project and research experience, and on her research areas of interest for the MS(R)/PhD programme.

We will not have an entrance test for MTech candidates for the Semester 2021-22-I.
