Optimum Module Size for Software Inspections

Inspections are one of the most effective methods for detection of defects. However, the inspection process, is labour intensive and for delivering value, they have to be properly executed and controlled. While controlling the inspection process, the inspection module size is a key control parameter. Larger module size can lead to an increased leakage of defects which increases the cost since rework in the subsequent phases is more expensive. Small module size reduces the defect leakage but increases the number of inspections. We have formulated a cost model for an inspection process using which the total cost can be minimized. Through the technique of Design of Experiments we have then determined the optimum module size for different combinations of the key parameters of the inspection process.

This service helps you determine the optimum module size for software inspection process for different combinations of the parameter values.

It has been developed by Prof. Pankaj Jalote's group at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur.

To determine the optimum module size for your software inspection process, just give the value of the parameters that the model uses. The service gives you the optimum module size for software inspections.
