Infrastructure is used in information systems to refer to basic support systems that are shared among users. Information technology infrastructure (IT infrastructure) is the basic, shared platform for all business applications in an organization. IT infrastructure consists of all those components that are needed to deliver IT Services to customers. It includes equipments, systems, software, and services used in common across an organization, regardless of program and project. IT Infrastructure also serves as the foundation upon which program, project-specific systems and capabilities are built. A reliable IT infrastructure is the key to success of any IT firm. Management of IT infrastructure has become of many concerns as its impact is organization-wide and infrastructure decisions have future consequences for a number of years.
Objective of the Course
The objective this short term course is to exposed the academia to the emerging area of IT Infrastructure and its Management. This course will focus on the basics of IT infrastructure and various management aspects of it. The course will give emphasis on the following topics:
Basics of IT Infrastructure: This includes the basics of IT infrastructure such as Design Issues, IT System Management Process, IT Service Management Process, Information System Design etc.
Service Delivery Process: Service delivery process is an integral part of IT service management which involves a number of management practices such as Service Level Management, Financial Management, Service Management, Capacity Management, Availability Management to ensure that IT services are actually provided as agreed between the service provider and the customer.
Service Support Process: Service support is the framework that enables effective IT Services. Service Delivery and Service Sup-port processes are linked together through the Service Desk which is a function that provides a single point of contact that focuses on rapid restoration of normal service operations to users.
Storage Management: The goal of Storage Management is to define, track, and maintain data and data resources. It is concerned with the operation and maintenance aspects of storage media and the data held on such media. Storage Management tasks includes Backup and Storage, Archive and Retrieve, Disaster Recovery, Space Management, Database and Application Protection, Bare Machine Recovery, Data Retention etc.
Security Management: Security Management is an important activity that aims to control the provision of information and to prevent unauthorized use of information. Some important tasks of Security Management includes Computer and Internet Security, Physical Security, Identity Management, Access Management, Intrusion Detection, Security Information Management
IT Ethics: IT ethics deals with Cyber Ethics, Intellectual Property, Privacy and Law, Computer Forensics, Ethics and Internet, Cyber Crimes.
Case Studies: This topic includes some live case studies from the
industry on IT infrastructure management.

Registration Fee
The registration fee is Rs. 10,000/-, which should be sent in the form of a Demand Draft in favor of “Short Term Course on IT Infrastructure Management” payable at Kanpur. Last Date of Receiving the registration fee along with the duly filled registration form is June 29, 2009. Registration fee includes the Registration Kit, Lecture Materials, Lunch and Tea during the course period.
Accommodation
Accommodation can be arranged on payment basis in one of the students hostel at IIT Kanpur. However seats are limited.
