English Reading Analysis


Data for first paragraph is completely corrupt and no inferences could be drawn. Analysis for second paragraph has been done.

Part (a)
There is visible backtracing. However, following words have multiple fixations which are very close.
Para 2 Line 1: Darwin
Para 2 Line 2: odds

Part (b)
Eye-fixations are longer at:
Para 2 Line 2: At word "odds"
Para 2 Line 5: At word "others"

Part (c)


Backtracking at "Darwin" is because, it is not word of daily usage and hence, it required multiple parses to comprehend. Other textual words ("odds" and "others") at positions of backtracking and long fixations are daily common words.


As you read the words one by one, syntactic structure of sentence is built in mind. Maybe, at words, "odds" and "others", it took longer time to build those syntactic structures, maybe be due to unusual complexity of sentence.

Hindi Reading Analysis


Note: There seems to be a problem with the data. Throughout the video, often gaze moves up and down abruptly. It seems as if gaze data has been rotated by some 30 degrees or so counter-clockwise. However, analysis has been done as much as possible.

Part (c)


आख्यान : I don't know the meaning of this word. So, I backtracked to recognize the spellings correctly. In general, when we read something, we don't focus on order of letters in word but overall letters present in word. But as I haven't आख्यान word before, so I was trying recognize order of letters as well.


लैंडमार्क, प्रफुल्लित  are uncommon words, so it took longer to comprehend them. At "रुक पाया है?", may be I was trying to answer the question in mind, and took more time to internalize the sentence.
