I am happy to provide you with a message to your class: Students, I am glad to see that you are embarking on a course in Computer Architecture. You are at an excellent university, and I am pretty sure you are undertaking a challenging course. Computer Architecture remains a critical component of computer processing. We have just scratched the surface of all that is possible. One word of caution I will offer -- with all the hype about Machine Learning, Quantum Computing, and Approximate Computing, please be cautious about jumping on one of these bandwagons. They come and go. But the fundamentals remain. Make sure you understand the fundamentals thoroughly, because that is what will determine how high you can soar. Good luck to you. You have wonderful opportunities awaiting you. Best regards, Yale Patt
