Shubhadip Mitra is a Research Scholar at the Department of Computer Science and Engg., IIT Kanpur since July,2010. He did his Masters from the same department during 2006-2008. Meanwhile he worked in IBM India Research Lab, Bangalore for 1.5 years.His home town is Kanpur. In early 90s, he spent three years in Nainital, Uttarakhand and since then developed a serious inclination for Nature and the Himalayas in particular. However since early childhood, he suffered from retinal hemorrhages and despite a long medical treatment, he has lost a considerable amount of vision in both the eyes.
Besides research, his other interests include spirituality and philosophy. He coordinated the activities of the Vivekananda Samiti, IIT Kanpur since he joined the campus. He is a follower of Ramakrishna Mission.

His interests include various disciplines of Applied Theoretical Computer Science like Combinatorics, Optimization, Graph Algorithms, Pattern Matching, Databases, etc.
His Master’s thesis was on “Multi-Objective Spanning Trees” under the guidance of Prof. Shashank K. Mehta. Currently, he is working on Multi-Constrained Path problems on Directed Acyclic Graphs.
One of his other interest is Complex Event Processing over Data Streams. This has immense application in numerous domains like business analytics, systems management, financial applications, security systems, workflow management, etc.
During his stay at IBM IRL, he worked on developing some algorithms and heuristics to improve the quality of experience of Video-on-Demand users in WiMAX networks. He also worked in the area of Root Cause Analysis for Problem Determination in IT Services.

His PhD Research area is Spatio-Temporal Databases. He is working under the guidance of Prof. Arnab Bhattacharya.
Currently we are exploring the domain to identify some interesting applied problems.

He is a scholar of Vedanta, more specifically Advaita Vedanta, propounded by Adi Shankaracharya. His teachers are Swami Paramsukhananda, Ramakrishna Mission and Swami Paramarthananda, disciple of Swami Dayananda Saraswati (disciple of Swami Shivananda).
He likes to spend time contemplating on deeper aspects of life like purpose of human life, what is real and what is unreal, what is the true nature of the microcosm and the macrocosm, the subjective universe and the objective universe. What is THE TRUTH? I am committed to discover this TRUTH.Bhagvad Gita, Upanishads and the Brahmasutras are the guiding tools in this journey of unleashing the Self to the self.
