The Biometric Research Lab at IIT Kanpur is engaged in performing research in wide variety of areas in biometrics. It is actively involved in carrying out research work in various biometrics traits such as Face, Ear, Fingerprint, Iris, Palmprint, Vein-pattern, Signature etc. Although there exist several biometric algorithms which can be used for recognition/identification, all of them suffers from few challenges and do not work as expected in many real life scenarios. Biometrics Lab IIT Kanpur is working towards overcoming these challenges and to develop an efficient recognition system by integrating multiple biometric traits. Such recognition system takes advantage of the proficiency of each individual biometric trait and can overcome some of the limitations of a single biometric based system. We, at Biometrics Research Lab, are also in the process of developing an efficient biometric identification system which can produce search results in real time. For this we are working on developing efficient clustering and indexing algorithms for biometric databases. The research group includes several PhD scholars, MTech students, and research staff.
