The history of the voyages by Scott, Amundsen, Shackleton, Byrd (flight
over both poles), and the scientific expedition by Fuchs and Hillary.

In this telling, the tragic story of Scott almost eclipses the fact that
Amundsen, with his dog-drawn sleighs, was easily the first to the pole,
well before Scott's human pulled fatal attempt. I am sure Norwegian books
for young readers have quite a different slant.
